Bridging the Wealth Gap through Education and Empowerment
In 2021, households with a White householder made up 65.3% of all U.S. households and held 80.0% of all wealth. In stark contrast, Black households, comprising 13.6% of all U.S. households, held only 4.7% of all wealth. The median wealth for Black households was just $24,520, compared to $250,400 for White households. In 2022, these disparities persisted, with Black households holding 15.8% of the median wealth of White households, and Latino/Hispanic households holding 21.6%. By the third quarter of 2023, homeownership among Black and Latino/Hispanic households remained significantly lower than that of White households.
These statistics highlight the urgent need for financial education and strategic planning to bridge the wealth gap and create lasting economic opportunities for all communities.
